Heneka Watkis-Porter has released, what I hope will be, the first of many books in support of entrepreneurship. 15 Hints To Entrepreneurial Success: Lessons From a Caribbean Business Woman is an easy read and packed with practical tips that anyone can use to improve their lives, whether they are in business or not.
With a very engaging writing style, Heneka draws on the stories of successful entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs of Apple and Colonel Sanders of KFC to emphasize traits that are necessary to stay the course and stay in business. Jamaicans Usain Bolt and Lascelles Chin of the LASCO Group of Companies are referenced as locals who are practicing the principles she promotes.
The book provides suggestions on persevering, the importance of planning, having a healthy and positive outlook on life and much more. Key sections are the latter chapters on marketing, keeping your financials in order and protecting your intellectual property.
The guide closes with a simple yet extensive template to use for writing a business plan.
Her introduction which gives a hint to what she overcame to launch her Patwa Apparel and now 10 Fyah Side sauces is powerful. I was hoping to read more about this journey as I believe many will learn from hearing her story. Hopefully we will learn more in future publications.
15 Hints To Entrepreneurial Success is available on amazon.com and other book retailers.
