This question was asked during my first Teachable Thursday “How do you find that balance Nerissa?”
Its not the kind of thing I sit around and ask myself. Do you have balance Nerissa? However, I can tell when my life is out of balance. It is not the absence of stress or challenges but actually the absence of peace. My response to the question posed was simple.
When I’m not desiring to be anyplace than where I am right now I have balance.
Many people spend a lot of time wishing to be anyplace but where they are right now and that makes for a lot of unhappy people. We all have moments when things get a bit too much and we want to escape the cold for sunshine, the office for the beach, and an empty bank account for an unlimited card with someone else paying the bill. But we don’t have to live in a perpetual state of “stop this train, I wanna get off.”
Philippians 4:11-13 says ” 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
It is possible to enjoy your life just the way it is now. This is not blind acceptance that a bad situation is great but the understanding that trouble won’t last and it will get better. You must learn to be thankful for your life and the ups and downs in order to find balance. When you are not allowing every situation to shake you, ruin your mood and get you dejected, then you are empowered to rise above it and find a solution.
