SAINT LUCIA – Veteran Caribbean tourism industry professional Anthony Bowen, a director of the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, has been recognized for his outstanding contribution to the region’s tourism industry.
Bowen, CEO of Sotheby’s International Realty in Rodney Bay, received Virgin Holidays’ 2010 Gold Award for Outstanding Contribution to Caribbean Tourism at Virgin Holidays’ gala awards evening during the World Travel Market in London this month.
He was a long-time executive at Saint Lucia’s Windjammer Landing Villa Beach Resort. “I am absolutely overwhelmed by this most prestigious award. I enjoy doing all that I can to see Caribbean nationals pursue and succeed in tourism and have never ever sought such recognition. I only wish that my mother and father were alive to share this with me and my family,” said Bowen, a native of Barbados and resident of Saint Lucia.
Bowen, President of the Saint Lucia Hotel and Tourism Association, has worked at properties in Antigua, Barbados, Saint Lucia and Jamaica, and served on various boards and committees in all of these island nations.
“We congratulate Tony on another outstanding accolade, and are thankful that he has chosen Saint Lucia to invest his outstanding gifts, talents and abilities,” said Louis Lewis, Saint Lucia’s Director of Tourism.
Bowen currently serves as Regional Vice President of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) and is also the treasurer of the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association Education Foundation which has awarded scholarships to a number of Saint Lucian nationals.
The award comes four years after Bowen’s industry partners and peers recognized him as “Caribbean Hotelier of the Year” in 2006.
