Who Told You, You Were Naked?

by Truly Caribbean Woman

Who told you…

… you were naked?

Who told you…

…the dignity and strength that squared your shoulders and held your head high was false pride?

Who told you…

… to forget you healed thousands with your hands, with herbs, with words?

Who told you…

…I required you to disregard your legacy, the wisdom of kings and queens handed down since eternity?

Who told you…

…your brother was your enemy, your woman a whore?

Who told you…

…I required your women to deny color, their bodies, their rhythm, their passion, to believe they were subservient to men?

Who told you…

…to forget you were warriors and still are?

Who told you…

…your knowledge of me, of life, was flawed, that you did not know me?

Who told you…

…our spirits were not one?

Who told you…

…only in forsaking your history would you find truth?

Who told you…

…the worship I required could only be accomplished in a building on a designated day?

Who told you…

…I hated you?

Who told you…

…I detested your blackness, your music, your magic, your dance?

Who told you…

…I could only be found in Western theology, Western knowledge, Western worship, Western words?

Who told you…

…you could only survive with handouts?

Who told you…

…failure and mistakes were sin, a death sentence?

Who told you…

…your dreams were unattainable and not your daily assignment to pursue?

Am I not the God who said “it is good”?
